World of Light

The entirety of the World of Light, with the Land of Light, the continent seen in Hyper Light Drifter, in the centre.[1]

The Land of Light is the name of the continent on which the story of Hyper Light Drifter takes place. It is located on the planet known as the World of Light. The Land of Light is split into five major regions that can be seen on the world map: the Central Zone, the Mountains or the Divine Path (North Area), the Lake or the Eastern Watershelf (East Area), the Crystal Forest or the Midnight Woods (West Area) and the Barren Hills or the Wastes (South Area). The Land of Light is the only part of the World of Light that appears in Hyper Light Drifter, and in fact it was not revealed that there was more to the setting beyond this continent until April 16, 2022, when the official Heart Machine Twitter profile posted an image of the entire world as a teaser for their upcoming game, Hyper Light Breaker.[1]

Each location contains many types of enemies and one boss. Barren Hills includes three minibosses in addition to the main boss.

Once the player arrives in Central Town, they can explore the Mountain, the Lake, and the Crystal Forest areas in any order. The Barren Hills is only unlocked after the other three areas are completed. An area is considered "complete" once the player has collected at least four out of the eight Modules in the area, defeated the main boss, and activated the area's Pillar.

Located deep underneath Central Town is the Abyss. It is the final location in the game and only becomes available when sixteen Modules have been collected and four Pillars have been activated.

Secrets

Sniper Switch

An example of the mark leading to a Sniper switch, which is only seen when walking up to it.

In Hyper Light Drifter, many items are hidden through the use of secret passages or doors.

You can determine the location of a secret by a distinct marking on the ground, similar to those seen on Monoliths, before one. Some secrets require you to press and hold the interact button to reveal invisible platforms in order to access them, some lead to a switch that can be activated with with the use of a gun.

Note: some switches may require a Railgun/Impact Railgun to be activated.
